Austin Convention Center

Discover a world of possibilities

This city-owned and operated convention center is in Texas’ capital – home to technology giants Dell and HP, main campus for the University of Texas Longhorns, Circuit of the Americas Formula 1 racetrack, South by Southwest (SXSW) music festival and regarded as the “live music capital of the world”. The convergence of art, culture, education, government, community activism, music and exceptional food reinforces the City’s reputation to “Keep Austin Weird”.

Conventional Wisdom has been involved regularly with the Austin Convention Center since its opening in 1992 and has seen the dynamic changes in the community. CW provided project definition services for the feasibility study on the Center’s first expansion; programming/ confirmation and design review on that expansion; and, most recently, a master plan study and recommendation for further expanding the facility. CW has since been retained by the City of Austin as a strategic advisor to assist with the delivery of the project. The center’s first expansion in 2002 doubled the amount of exhibition space at the facility. This next expansion will double that amount to achieve 450,000 square feet of exhibition/flex space, a large multipurpose ballroom and added meeting space. Austin’s supply of proximate hotel rooms is second to none in its market and places Austin as one of the top destinations in the Southwest.
