Qatar National Convention Centre
When Time Is Of The Essence
Doha, Qatar
As part of the large Education City mixed-use development, the iconic Phase 1 design of the Qatar National Convention Centre provided theaters, an auditorium, a mix of meeting and conference rooms along with substantial delegate support spaces intended to host the 20th annual World Petroleum Congress. The unique aspect to this project was to significantly expand the exhibition and meeting spaces yet fully integrate the design, technology and operation into a building that had just begun construction, all within a fast-track delivery framework.
Conventional Wisdom assisted Populous and Burns & McDonnell in developing multiple expansion sizes and configurations for owner review. The final master plan added 325,000 square feet of exhibition halls, 33,000 square feet of meeting space and a secure connection between Phases 1 and 2. CW provided programming and operational feedback throughout the design phase.
